FAQ

Can I personally select my steer for purchase?

Absolutely! We love to have clients come out to the ranch to select their own animal and to see where their beef comes from. Don't want to select your animal?  We'll be happy to select it for you based off your requested specifications and availability.

How much does a LIVE animal cost?

Prices are determined on the final weight of the animal and any transportation fee. Please contact us for more information.

Can I purchase just a portion of an animal?

We only sell whole animals. If you wish to split an animal with another family or families, that is between you and your meat processing facility. All fees are determined by the processing facility.

How much meat will I get?

Typically, half a steer will usually yield 1 brisket, 12 roast, 14 T-bone steaks, 5 sirloin steaks, 5 sirloin tip steaks, 14 rib-eye steaks, 6 round steaks, plus short ribs, flank steak, stew meat and approximately 75 lbs of ground beef. All this is variable depending on cut thickness and request for ground beef instead of other cuts of meats. So, half a steer could yield around 250 lbs of processed meat.

How do I know if I have enough freezer space?

Good rule of thumb is 1 cu ft of space per 25lbs of meat. So, for half a steer you would require a minimum 10 cu ft of freezer space. In our experience having too much freezer space is always better than not having enough.

Does the Rockin Pye Ranch process the animal?

No, we don't. All animals are sold LIVE. Meat processing, distribution, and fees are handled by your chosen facility. We are able to transport the animal (for a fee) to your requested processing facility.

How much does it cost to process an animal?

All fees associated with meat processing are determined by the meat processing facility. Typically, processing cost between $600 - $800. However, final fees are determined by the weight of the animal and how you choose your cuts of beef.
